Dear Japan Forum Members, As I enter my tenth year of moderating this online discussion group, I feel enriched to have met so many talented contributors, each of whom carries on the forum's purpose--in your messages, in your debates, and, might I add, in our occasional disagreements. I think it is even worthwhile, now and then, to post a piece that some well-informed respondents will soundly argue is quite misguided. But even those few times when a discussion ends with each party going to their own separate corner, I still feel gratified to have found a place that allows me to agree, to disagree, and most importantly, to engage about Japan, a topic very much close to my heart, as I know it is to yours. That has truly been the greatest gift over the years--to have had the chance to interact with all of you, you who have enlightened me with all your experience and knowledge about Japan, including its military engagements, economic intrigues, policy debates, and even the occasional banana diet. I hope you all, like me, are looking forward to what discussions may arise in 2010. I offer my sincere thanks for your participation in our forum community, and I hope you will consider extending your support by making a contribution to our campaign.
