Dear Japan Forum Members, 2010 was a monumental year for the Japan Forum—our tenth year in operation; our tenth year serving as a community space where members from around the world can discuss, debate, and argue about Japanese affairs and Japan-U.S. relations. As many of you know, 2010 was an unforgettable year for me as well. As we celebrate another year of the Forum, I feel enriched to have met so many talented contributors, each of whom fulfills the forum's purpose—to contribute and participate in discussion about Japan, a topic very much close to my heart, as I know it is to yours. The continuing economic crisis has affected many non-profit organizations and their activities, even the Japan Forum, where our 2011 foundation support was cut by one third due to limited funds. We have been forced to trim staff time and resources in order to continue running. With this funding challenge, we have set our biggest funding goal yet—$7,000—a high goal based on great need. We are now turning to you, our members, to help us meet this goal. Please support the Forum community and help us continue our mission to promote thoughtful and informative discussion on contemporary issues related to Japan. I offer my sincere thanks for your participation in the Forum, and I hope you will consider extending your support by making a contribution to our campaign. Your gift will go directly to maintaining the Forum and helping us continue to provide this important resource. Sincerely, Edward G. Griffin |
